Perioral lines

Perioral lines, also known as smoker’s lines, are the vertical wrinkles that appear around the mouth and lips as a person ages. Perioral lines are created through the activity of the underlying orbicularis orris muscle and the natural process of ageing with a loss of volume and elasticity in the skin around the mouth. Perioral lines can also be caused by a combination of other factors, including repetitive muscle movements (such as puckering the lips), as well as the natural ageing processes that reduce skin elasticity, exposure to environmental factors such as sun damage, and smoking.
